Signs of a Slab Leak in Arizona

What to check first if you suspect water is leaking beneath your Chandler home.

A slab leak rarely announces itself. In most Arizona homes — built on concrete slabs with water lines running beneath — it starts as a small, easy-to-dismiss change.

1. The water bill

A bill that climbs with no change in habits is the most common first sign. Compare against the same month last year — summer irrigation naturally raises usage, so like-for-like matters.

2. The meter test

Turn off every fixture and appliance, then look at your water meter. If the leak indicator or dial is still moving, water is going somewhere.

3. Warm or damp spots on the floor

A warm patch on tile or concrete can indicate a hot-water line leaking beneath the slab. Damp carpet or baseboards with no other source is another clue.

4. The sound of running water

If you can hear water running in a quiet house with everything off, it's worth investigating.

5. Cracks, lifting or moisture at the base of walls

Not always present, but worth noting alongside other signs.

When to call

If the meter moves with everything off — or you notice two or more signs — that's the point for professional slab leak detection. Locating the leak first means any opening is limited to where it's needed.
